Collecting Used Equipment for Charity
Do you have old bats, gloves, cleats, balls, and uniforms stored
away in the closet or garage, never to be used again? If so, put
them to good use by donating them to softball and baseball
programs for needy children in Venezuela. SRVGAL players,
Katelyn, Kelsey and Kayla Kriech, and Brenna and Katie Lohec are
collecting used softball and baseball equipment to ship to
Venezuela to a program that provides the equipment to needy
children and promotes the game of softball/baseball.
You can bring your equipment donations to your scheduled SRVGAL
games from May 19, 2008 to June 6, 2008. Also, we will be taking
donations during all Playoff and All-Star games.
Give your donations to one of your coaches who will store the
equipment in the KNACK Boxes for pick-up by our donation
collection teams.
Thank you for your participation.

PCA Double Goal Coach of the Year Award
Nominations
It is time to nominate coaches for our PCA Double Goal
Coach of the Year Awards.
SRVGAL has many outstanding volunteers who accept the challenge
of coaching our daughters. On June 8th, All Star Day we
recognize these individuals by awarding them our PCA Double Goal
Coach of the Year Awards. Coaches, parents, and players are
encouraged to nominate SRVGAL coaches who they believe are
outstanding examples of coaches who not only strive for
excellence in the sport of softball, but who have a second, more
important goal of using sports to teach life lessons. Please let
SRVGAL know of coaches who:
-
Emphasize effort, learning and bouncing back from mistakes
-
Fill their players emotional tanks with encouragement and
praise
-
Honor all aspects of the game, treating players, umpires and
fellow coaches with respect
Nominations are easy, just click on the link below and complete
a short online application. This is a great way to show
appreciation and recognition to the men and women who give their
time to our daughters.
The deadline for submission is May 7, 2008.

Summer Stompers Tryouts Announced
Interested in playing softball through the summer? If you love
softball, want the opportunity to improve your game, and like to
hang out with other girls who love the game, then tryout for a
Stompers team!
The SRVGAL Stompers will be holding tryouts for 10U, 12U, and 14U
teams beginning May 1st. SRVGAL hopes to field at least two
teams in each age group. Stompers teams are very competitive and
require a high level of commitment. Summer teams usually play
from five to eight weekend tournaments throughout Northern
California. Tournament play usually begins Memorial Day weekend
and ends the first week of August. Our teams traditionally
represent SRVGAL well at Western Nationals.
If this sounds like it is for you, please click the following

Team Photo Day is Sunday, April 27th
Team photos will be taken by Gentile Photography at Sycamore
Park on Sunday April 27th. Coaches will receive their assigned
time from their division coordinators this week.
This year Gentile Photography is pleased to announce their pre
pay pre order program. No photo envelopes are necessary on the
photo field. Just click on
https://prepay.groupphotographers.com/prepay?wo=813989 and
enter Event Code: srvgal427. Your photo envelope will come up.
You will fill out the envelope, pay with the appropriate credit
card, print out 2 receipts, then bring one receipt to picture
day (no worries, if you forget, they will download the
information and they will have a list at the field as to who
paid in advance).
By using this service, you do not have to bring an envelope to
picture day nor do you have to fill one out on the field. You
may still use the envelopes, this new service is just a
convenience for those who would rather do it all ahead of time.
If you have questions please call Gentile Photography at

Stompers Coaches for the Summer Travel
Teams 'B' Program
SRVGAL is now accepting coaching applications for the Summer
Travel Teams 'B' Program. The deadline for submitting an
application is 4/1/08.
Stompers teams are very competitive and require a high level of
commitment. We offer teams in 10U, 12U and 14U. Each team
typically has 12-15 of the strongest players from the Red, Blue
and White Divisions. Tryout sessions are usually the first
weekend in May with the teams formed soon thereafter. Teams
usually play four to ten tournaments throughout Northern
California during the months of May through August. Stompers
teams traditionally represent SRVGAL well at the National
Tournaments in August of each year.

Umpires Needed for the 2008 Season
Softball is just around the corner and SRVGAL is in need of
umpires. Last season there were over 600 umpired games, yet we
still fell short of where we need to be. SRVGAL provides Umpire
Clinics in both Rules and Mechanics and are required to become
an ASA approved umpire.
NOTE: All new umpires must attend one Rules clinic and
one Mechanics clinic. All returning umpires must attend one
Rules clinic.
February 9 – Umpire Rules Clinic (9 am - 1 pm)
February 24 – Umpire Mechanics Clinic (12 pm - 4 pm)
March 1 – Umpire Rules Clinic (9 am - 1 pm)
March 9 – Umpire Mechanics Clinic (12 pm - 4 pm)
(All Umpire clinics are at Charlotte Wood Middle School)
We also demand umpires be given the respect they deserve from
coaches, the team, and the parents. This is a great opportunity
for you and your youth to see the other side of a game. As long
as you are 13 by April 1st, 2008, you can umpire. A parent and
their child is a great combination. SRVGAL also offers
"mentoring" games where an experienced umpire will go out with a
youth to show them the ropes. It also pays well:
1st year umpires – $33 a game
2nd year umpires – $40 a game
3rd year umpires – $45 a game
Please fill out an application on the link above. Thanks for
your support.
