Devil Mountain Tournament: Rules

Tournament Rules

1. The Tournament will use a a three game pool play format to determine seeding. Single elimination Championship format to be used on Sunday after pool play.

2. Game times will be as scheduled except in the case of previous extra inning games. All teams must be ready to play at game time. The tournament director has the right to change game times and locations, if needed.

3. The tournament will be played under A.S.A. rules except for any necessary local ground rules. Pool play games will be 1 hour and 30 minutes or seven innings, whichever comes first. If a team is ahead by ten (10) runs after four innings or eight (8) runs after five innings, the game will be called. No new inning will begin after the allotted time. Ties are allowed in pool play. If the score is tied after seven innings or the allotted game time, the international tie-breaker will be used on Sunday. Intra pool games will be 1 hour and 30 minutes or seven innings, whichever comes first.

4. The championship game will not have a time limit.

5. Teams are limited to 15 players, with a minimum of 8 players to start. An out will not be recorded in the vacant position. If playing shorthanded, and a substitute arrives, the substitute will be immediately inserted into the vacant spot. Changes and/or additions to rosters will be permitted up to fifteen minutes prior to a team’s first scheduled game. All changes must be approved by the tournament officials. All teams must submit a team roster before their first scheduled game. Spot checks of rosters and birth certificates may be made at any time.

6. Every team must submit proof of insurance prior to their first scheduled game.

7. Team listed first will be assigned the 3rd base dugout. A team that plays back to back games on the same field must keep the same dugout. A coin toss will decide the home team.

8. There will be no infield practice between games. The pitcher will receive five (5) warm-up pitches between innings. The ball must be returned to the pitcher after every out.

9. In all protests, only the coaches will be allowed to discuss the situation with the umpires and if necessary, the tournament officials. All protests must be settled before the next pitch. Teams filing protests must submit $100 cash. Money will be refunded if protest is upheld.

10. Each coach will submit their lineup to the official scorekeeper and umpire fifteen (15) minutes before each scheduled game. The official scorekeeper will be assigned by the home team. An official score book will be the home team’s book. Lineups must be provided with first and last names and uniform numbers at this time. Umpires will keep the official time. The home plate umpire must sign off on the final score. Winning teams will report the score to the Field Coordinator.

11. Trophies and players' awards will be distributed at the conclusion of the championship game of each division.

12. Decisions of the Tournament Directors and the Umpire in Chief will be final. Any player, coach, or team member ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct may be ejected for the remainder of the tournament.

13. No use of alcoholic beverages or other controlled substances is allowed on the playing fields, in the dugouts or in the stands. Spectators abusive to umpires, players, coaches, or tournament personnel will be asked to leave the tournament grounds. Teams are subject to forfeits for violation of this rule.

14. Metal cleats are not allowed. Helmets with face masks and chin straps must be worn by batters, base runners, and player base coaches. Game catchers and catchers warming up pitchers must use a catcher’s mask and helmet. No visible jewelry allowed.

15. In the case of a tie after pool play, placement will be based on the following:

1. Head to head competition will be used if two teams are tied and did play a pool game against each other.
2. Team with fewest runs allowed
3. Team with most runs scored
4. Coin flip.

16. Rules are subject to change.
