Events: All Star Day: Erin Burn Memorial Sportsmanship Award
The Erin Burns Memorial Sportsmanship Award has been authorized by the SRVGAL Board of
Directors to honor Erin Burns, a long time SRVGAL player who perished in a drowning accident in
August 1993, shortly after graduating from Monte Vista High School. A recipient is nominated by
the coaches and Board of Directors. A nominee must be in the 18 League or Tournament Division
with at least eight years of SRVGAL experience to be considered. The Recipient's name will be
kept on the perpetual trophy established in Erin's honor and will also receive a plaque for
home display.
The Sportsmanship Award was established to honor Erin in those areas where she made outstanding
contributions to SRVGAL: enthusiasm, dedication of effort, encouragement for teammates and
opponents alike, and unflagging optimism and good attitude. Her presence on a team boosted
everyone's spirits. The honoree will be that player who, in the judgment of players and coaches,
best represents those qualities of good sportsmanship that Erin exemplified in her SRVGAL career.
Erin played SRVGAL softball for ten years, the last four in Red Division. She also played two
years at Monte Vista, lettering in her 1993 senior season. She also participated in swimming,
both in high school (two years) and in summer recreation league (ten years). Erin was an
accomplished singer as well, participating in a number of choral and vocal ensemble groups at
Monte Vista. In addition, she was an active leader in the John Knox Presbyterian Church youth group.
She will be missed by everyone who met her and by those who never had the opportunity.
Congratulations to this year's recipient of the Erin Burns Memorial Sportsmanship Award:
