The San Ramon Valley Girls Athletic League is a nonprofit organization that was formed in 1974 to offer a quality recreational and competitive softball program to girls age 5 to 18. SRVGAL is the largest girls' softball organization west of the Mississipp
SRVGAL is divided into "Grade Based Divisions" and then competitive level Divisions within each age group. Our Grade Based Divisions are:
Pre-K and Kindergarten
1st and 2nd Grade
3rd and 4th Grade
5th and 6th Grade
7th and 8th Grade

Description
Pre-K/Kinder.
(T-Ball)
Players that are in these grades will play together and is our entry level division. Teams are formed with consideration of grade and for the schools the players attend. Not every player on a team will be from the same school. They use a tee to hit from and learn the basics of throwing and catching. No scores are kept. This group uses a 9” size safety ball for play.
1st/2nd Grade
Players that are in these grades will play together. This is where the hitters begin to hit a ball that is pitched to them by the adult coach. Here we teach or reinforce the basic skills learned from the Pre-K/K division. Teams are formed by player evaluated skill levels, grade, and the schools they attend. Not every player on a team will be from the same school. Scores are kept but no standings are kept. This group will be using the 11” size safety ball for play.
3rd/4th Grade
Players that are in these grades will play together. There are division breakdowns and we offer tryouts for more competitive play. The breakdowns are known as Red, Blue, and White. This is where the players begin to pitch to themselves. This is where a few of the more complex skills and pitching are introduced and the basic skills are taught or reinforced. Teams are formed either by draft for the Red/Blue division teams or player evaluated skill levels, grade, and the schools they attend for the White division teams . Not every player on a team will be from the same school. Scores and standings are kept and there is post season (playoffs) play. This Blue and White divisions will use the 11” size safety ball and the Red division will use the 11” size regulation ball for play.
5th/6th Grade
Players that are in these grades will play together. There are division breakdowns and we offer tryouts for more competitive play. The breakdowns are known as Red, Blue, and White. The players pitch to themselves and the players taught more complex skills as well as the basic skills which are reinforced. Teams are formed either by draft for the Red/Blue division teams or player evaluated skill levels, grade, and the schools they attend foe White division teams. Not every player on a team will be from the same school. Scores and standings are kept and there is post season (playoffs) play. This group uses the 12” regulation ball for play.
7th/8th Grade

(In 2020 7th/8th Blue was renamed to 7th/8th Open.) The players pitch to themselves and the players taught more complex skills as well as the basic skills which are reinforced. Teams are formed either by draft for the Red division teams or player evaluated skill levels, grade, and the schools they attend for the Open division teams. Not every player on a team will be from the same school. Scores and standings are kept and there is post season (playoffs) play. This group uses the 12” regulation ball for play.
Senior
(High School)
Players that are in High School will play in this division. Teams are formed mainly using player evaluated skill levels and consideration to grade and the school they attend. Not every player on a team will be from the same school. Both complex skills and the basic skills are taught or reinforced Scores and standings are kept and there is post season (playoffs) play. This group uses the 12” regulation ball for play.
